Ina's Peach Cake

Cake number three is from Ina Garten aka The Barefoot Contessa.  This one came from How Easy Is That, Ina's latest book.  Simply called Peach Cake I churned two of these out last night.  They are pretty easy to make, but really not fruity enough: I would add more fresh peaches next time.  I also wish it had another flavor like cinnamon or ginger to compliment the peaches.   My parents liked it, but not like how the raved over cake number one from the Beekman's.  I still have more peach cakes to make, the summer is not over yet.

Hugh Acheson's Peach Cake

Here is the second peach cake.   Hugh Acheson (oddly cute for a unibrow) gave an excerpt from his upcoming cookbook A New Turn on the South, to InStyle Magazine.  Since he was one of my favorites from Top Chef Masters I thought I would give it a spin.

It is made on the stove with a cast iron pan, and then transferred to the oven.

The peaches kind of stuck to the top of the pan, so it was not as pretty as it could have been.

Here it is with ice cream.  The general consensus was that my first peach cake was better.  This one tasted like oranges, which were in the caramel sauce that was on top of the peaches.  Also it was dry, but to be honest my mom can't work the oven timer yet.  (She was in charge while I ran out to get the ice cream.)

See kinda sexy with the unibrow... who knew it was even possible.

Orange Item of the Week

I have been baking constantly.  It only makes sense that my orange item of the week is my Russian doll measuring cups.

Peach Cake Experement

So, I have been finding tons of peach cake recipes in my cook book travels.  Since the farmer's market is open, I am going to be making a few of these suckers.  Here is number one, from The Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook.  It was delicious, with a cardamon twist.  First I was a little confused since I think of it as a fall spice, but the next day after the cake settled it was amazing.  Next up will be Hugh Acheson's peach cake made in a cast iron skillet.

My dad ate two thirds of it in a day.

Funny story, my mom said "They don't look like brothers and it is rare that they would both be gay."  "Mom, they are not brothers.  They are married."

Orange Item of the Week

Here is another New York one, from Ronni's apartment.  She enjoys colored vases, and as luck would have it, she has a few sets of orange ones.  Sadly, this is my last New York orange item until I can get there again.  However, this will be sooner than last time since I just scored a new job at Target.  It is overnight restocking the shelves.  I am so excited and promise to post pictures of my in my red and khaki!

Did you notice the orange candle in the background?

Gingerbread House

The squirrels in my back yard ate this in less than a half an hour.  My poor house.  There will be a new one next Christmas.

Orange Item of the Week

Last week I was home in New York so, I think I am going to have two orange item of the week.  (Hey, even orange loving bloggers need a vacation.)  So here are two items from my trip: Whitney's dress and Auntie Deedee's ring.  They were pretty good sports since not everyone wants to have their pictures on a blog.

Whitney pondering the mysteries of life.

Auntie DeeDee and her blue nails.

Civilization has arrived to Connecticut

Well, sorta.  We have a Pink Berry.  I had to explain to my mom what it is and how to order, but she liked it!  She even likes mochi.  I was proud of Joann for being adventurous!  We went again this week and had it for lunch.  We are so trendy.
