We have well water, so no running water for us. The town hooked up Mass Decontamination Units. They are for when we have some sort of radiation problem. None the less, we Christened them, the water is hot. It comes from a fire truck. This is a reenactment, since I did not bring my camera when my mom and I went. We invited my father, but he said he "did not want to be messed with." I have no idea what the hell he thought was going on with the units. This is not a gym in Chelsea people.

And last... Showering
All we could do....
At night was read. These pictures look brighter than it was. We had a ton of candles for light and the fire for heat. I started reading about the Impressionists, but eventually abandoned it (along with my hope for power) for Harry Potter. I got to about half way through Goblet of Fire when the lights came back!
Then came the six longest days of my life.....
So here it is... me cooking in the fire place. We had to throw out all our food so our options were soup and grilled cheese from the fire place. This is when we gave each other Amish names. I was Rebecca, my mom was Sarah, my dad Caleb, Stanley was Jacob and Olivia was Ruth. I realize my red jammies look horrible...... a little bit about cooking over a fire. You have to soap the outside of the pot and then put it in the hot coals. I had to look in to see if the water was boiling with a flash light. To be honest, everything that I made was gross. My poor family.
Then the power went out..
Black Out Madness
I have so many pictures from the black out, I have to break up my posts. To explain why we are all dressed like idiots, it was cold and we were all layering with whatever we could find. Plus no laundry. Hence odd colors, and weird jackets and many regrettable moments. Also, my hair.... oy! So, here is six and a half blackout days worth of amish/pioneer days!
